JAG: Florida Straits

Airdate: October 17, 2000.

In a "ripped from the headlines" episode, JAG's version of the Elian Gonsalez story has the US Navy picking up a young Cuban refugee girl adrift in Cuban territorial waters on a makeshift raft. Her father is not as fortunate. He was picked up by a Cuban vessel and returned to Cuba. The Navy captain is Cuban-American. He becomes emotionally involved and is determined to convey the child refugee to American soil, even at the cost of his own career. Harm is caught in the middle - his heart with the captain's cause, his mind seeing all too clearly the consequences of the man's single-minded crusade. It requires all his skill and diplomacy to help both the captain and the girl to achieve their goals without sacrificing the rule of law.
